Ask HN: What would you read to learn about "artificial intelligence"?

The last time I read about anything in this space or adjacent, was back around 2015 when image glitching had a resurgance due to to deepdream[1]

If you didn't have a strong math background, what would you read to get up to speed on "artificial intelligence"? Any books or maybe open access syllabi?

Whenever I try to dive into a paper I feel like I've been out of academia too long and that what used to be precise things like "Neural network" or "machine learning" are all lumped together under "AI" which is apparently... something that talks to you like you're Tony Stark, but in a dumber way?

Anyways, I want to learn more about these things but having trouble finding a starting point.

This Deep Learning textbook by Ian Goodfellow is a good intro to the fundamentals: https://www.deeplearningbook.org/

It does require some math, but has an appendix with a refresher.

Then, read through this list from Ilya Sutskevar: https://github.com/dzyim/ilya-sutskever-recommended-reading

Be patient. It might take a couple of years to get up to speed. :)
