Awareness is only the tip of consciousness. Consciousness is the feedback loop with the existential potential bound in our neurons.

We are not consciousness or unconsciousness by whether we are strictly aware or even remember.

We are consciousness every moment we are living and conscious only when awake and cognitively responsive.

We can reprogram our minds and bodies through consciousness, awareness is only one tool, and those changes influence us even when we are not deliberately aware of them.

It sounds like this article refers to nerve firing or cognitive awareness being the sum total or measure of “consciousness”.
