I didn't eat sugar for a good 6 months. I'd have the occasional piece of fruit, but if sugar (in any form) was on a label, I wasn't eating it, even trace amounts. After the initial adjustment, I didn't crave it at all. I'd have maybe 1-2 pieces of fruit per week, if that.
It was other people who led to stopping. People kept telling me I was being "too strict" and things like that. In hindsight, they were just projecting, I felt great and didn't feel deprived at all. I some a candy bar or something, and that opened the flood gates for the cravings to come back hard. I haven't been able to flip that switch in my head to go cold turkey to that same degree again.

I wonder how people get to crave on sugar. It's almost creepy to imagine that could be a possibility.

Same reward center as cocaine and other drugs. GLP-1s patch both.
