What if instead of trees, I plant bamboo and whenever the plant reaches full size, we rip them out and bury them say 90 feet deep in old coal open mines.

See this https://phys.org/news/2025-06-carbon-capture-wood-debris-for... for a study of that idea.

When I got it into climate concern circa 2000 we thought climax ecosystems where basically "net zero" and now we know they not only hold a lot of carbon but are still sucking it down, this paper contributes to this conclusion https://phys.org/news/2025-06-native-forests-carbon-inverse-... but I know people who went down to Brazil and came to that conclusion by putting calipers on trees and counting rings. Stopping deforestation is a clear win.
