> Alas, I don’t have the impression that chickens are very competent to live on their own in a modern city downtown, nor really in the suburbs either, nor really in the wild.
The author's impression would be incorrect. Chickens survive fine in the wild. We even had a few escape and they have built a small wild chicken population in our forest. It goes well with the wild turkey flocks that wander the area.
So what, this is what all species have to deal with, including humans. A fox killing and eating a chicken is nature. Humans raising billions of them for food consumption is not an imbalance that would be supported by nature.

Lacks knowledge of predator-prey models and so predicts a "chicken extinction".
The article is unworthy of HN.

Applying the term "holocaust" to a hypothetical population decline of chickens is a form of false equivalence that trivializes the human atrocity; this choice of words is designed to be provocative and frame the debate in a biased, emotional way rather than a logical one. The article is deliberately designed to provoke an angry, unproductive, or emotional response, or a political or ideological battle, and thus a violation of HN rules.
