Show HN: Anytype – a local and collaborative database with API and MCP server
What’s new: - local API (desktop only for now) - lets you create your workflows - MCP server - lets you connect LLMs - raycast extension as an example
Try it: https://download.anytype.io/
Don’t judge us by the website—it’s outdated, as we’ve been heads-down building. Start on desktop = mobile apps are companions. Best of all, anytype works on Mac. Other platforms have more bugs (sorry about that).
How anytype works: - Local-first: all data is stored and encrypted on-device - CRDT-based sync: collaboration with eventual consistency - Accounts & auth via user-owned keys (device-only) - pen source core (part MIT licensed, part source-available): github.com/anyproto
Features: - Docs, notes, tasks, tables, media – linked and structured - Real-time collaboration (across users & devices) - Web publishing (from desktop) - Native mobile apps (companions)
We’ve been building anytype for six years with a conviction that our thoughts and communication should belong to us alone. It took us years to figure out the scalable tech stack to bring this level of privacy and independence. Now, we open the API as the first step to enable anyone to build on top. If you want to build AI-agents for anytype, here is a waiting list for early access. https://anytype.typeform.com/to/gWbECrpg If you have questions, feedback, ideas, we are all ears.
