Ask HN: Why not have color coded glasses to indicate willingness for small talk?

For example, a red marker on the frames would indicate that no small talk is allowed.

A yellow marker might suggest that small talk is tolerated but should be approached with caution (e.g., avoid asking where the person was originally born or using a language other than the main language of the area).

A green marker would indicate that small talk is generally welcome on most topics.

You could even change the marker color on your frames to match your mood.

Do you think this would be a good idea?

Those of us who seek out engagement already know when to perform to get attention and usually can tell when to stop. Glasses aren't necessary. Those are built-in to the personality.

Couldn't you just spot an extravert? That color thing is too exponsive.

nah, mate. I'd rather say directly to their face that I have something else to do.

what about people with good eyesight? (no glasses)

They could have their sunglasses nearby or on their head (but not over their eyes when indoors).
