Ask HN: Where to Find Great Remote Front-End Developers for V1 Build?
2 leo_dard 4 8/28/2025, 10:42:52 AM
Hi everyone,
I’m getting ready to build the V1 of my product and I’m looking for a senior front-end developer to help bring it to life (remote is totally fine). Ideally someone with strong experience in building UIs from scratch for early-stage products / platforms, and comfortable working closely with a founder on rapid iterations.
Before diving into job boards, I’d love to ask:
- Where have you found great front-end developers (freelance or contract)?
- Any platforms you recommend (or to avoid)?
So far, I’m considering: Toptal, Upwork, Lemon.io
Also curious if anyone's had success finding devs via Twitter/LinkedIn outreach or design/dev communities like Indie Hackers, Frontend Mentor, or Dev.to.
Any tips, names, or intros would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks

There's a monthly freelancer thread on HackerNews https://news.ycombinator.com/submitted?id=whoishiring You could try to post a 'seeking freelancer' comment on the next thread. Lately it's mostly 'seeking work', not 'seeking freelancer' but that's the state of the job market these days. Thread starts first business day of the month 9am California time (next Monday).

Define great. Do you mean great as in soft skills and gets shit done or great as in technical mastery? Most of the time when UX developers think about great their minds immediately go to tech stack, which is less than great.

Agree with you, by great I mean someone who drives outcomes, not just code
