Just reading their annual report and scanning through the repos on github tells you think was questionable use of public money. I went to some of the talks which were good but felt a lot of their work was research for the sake of research with little to no traction in the commercial space which is where they should have been much more focused.

This was unfortunately inevitable in the end. They had no plans to fix the broken institute they had created.
