When we were looking at used BEVs here in Sweden the salespeople joked(?) that customers were questioning why they even stocked used Teslas.

No surprise there. And no, it's not just due to Elon's antics - Tesla has been locked by a serious labor dispute for well over a year now [1] that quickly evolved to include solidarity strikes in Norway [2].

European countries generally don't like American hire-and-fire and other labor practices. Musk made it so much worse all on his own, and labor unions are pretty powerful when you piss them off too much.

Per the article, BYD and Polestar sales are off as well.

Perhaps this story should really be about why EV sales seem dramatically lower. Was there some change in laws, economic conditions, etc?

EVs are doing fine. Best selling cars are Volkswagen, Volvo, Kia, Skoda, Audi in that order.

Audi has three E-TRON models and every one of them sells better than Tesla.
