As a general rule I believe parents give career advice based on what would have been the smart move when they were the were in their early to mid 20s. I don't know if that will change just because of AI.

The best advice is that should generally not listen to anyone's advice (including mine) because most of it has a hidden expiry date.
It's up to you to decide to take it or not.

I think the parents of today were told to go heavily into tuition debt, that they cant bankrupt, for a degree in whatever that only has a 36.6%(2019 bachelors degrees in canada) who actually use the degree. In addition, employment rate of graduates is well below the unemployment rate.
Parents are pretty bad at giving career advice.
