I work on a web application that as it grows in complexity I think "man if this was just a whole new page now rather than a modal we could do a lot more" and then I think of interfaces that handle multiple pages being open and I think of ... an OS.

Not sure if that's entirely what the author thought of but I think it might be a little of that.
