Why should they? Musk's predictions have an extremely poor track record in terms of being accurate.

I am not sure the recent public displays of the quality of judgment of said individual are demonstrative of a particular high level of cleverness.

Fun read anyway. A fun question to add and discuss more often still, would be: if this type of AI takes over the world, what are the chances that those who are replaced (first) are the same rich/powerful ones that are funding its development and advent? What control do they have over it?
