I don't feel that their data supports the assertion that Netflix films are categorically worse. User-reported opinions have very wide error bars.

Netflix's motivation is different from that of theatrical-release studios. The latter rewards each movie individually; did people see it? Netflix just needs you to keep subscribing to the service; it's much harder to attribute success or failure to a picture.

The spending budget graph is more interesting: Netflix spends less, while reaping huge overall profits. I'm glad that they're spending that making a huge variety of films. Often, they're targeted to audiences who aren't me. Which means that they also sometimes make films for which I am the perfect target audience. I've loved several things that everybody hated. (Cowboy Bebop comes to mind; there were others.)
