It is not schadenfreude, but something about when these morality crusaders get caught being the most vile of us all. Maybe it is just my cynicism.

your not going far enough to be cynical, the whole whole phenominon is becoming a WTF that just does not stop, and when you throw in some very serious evil stuff like the nuns in ireland filling up abandoned wells and septic systems with new borns and babys
