Whittier

My brother and I visited Whittier Friday 8/2/25. Boy,what a depressing place to live. I couldn't. You can only get there thru the tunnel, by air or boat. Not much to do there except walk around, buy some food, then leave.I would get too depressed being it's the wettest place in N.America (from what I read).

We went fishing in Soldotna AK, then drove to Homer, went on a Fjord trip out of Seward, flew a float plane across Cooks Bay to fish. That was all awesome. The last day, we went to Whittier AK...just to see the place and drive thru the longest tunnel in N.America. Once in tiny Whittier, we bought some flat bread pizza (really yummy!) and walked around a bit. Saw the abandoned Army barracks and the big "bldg" where most of the town lives in. To me, it's depressing. I don't know how anyone could be happy/content living in this cramped place. Sure, there's mountains, pretty scenery, but that's about it. You get use to seeing gulls everywhere and hearing them but it's just too tight of a place to live and if you want to get away, you have to pay $13 to escape the town thru the tunnel or swim, boat, fly out of there. I'll pass.No offence Whittier !
