Tesla supposedly has a $37 billion cash pile, but no autonomous vehicle comparable to a Waymo, nor a successor to the Model 3 and Model Y. No New Roadster. No production Semis. The robot is lame compared to Atlas. They've got the resources to do all of these things right. Elon might be the most notable case of that stingy boss who starves all projects and complains about everything being expensive.

Mark Rober has a great YouTube video a Tesla vs another with LIDAR in a variety of conditions. Needless to say, the child dummy that was placed in the road met several demises with the Tesla.
