So, this is a self-inflicted problem, because American companies have been spoiled for decades to the point that they consider training their own employees something that they shouldn't have to do.

Damn, I had no idea.

High school is not supposed to be trade school. It supposed to give you the general educational platform on which you can build more specialized things like training for a specific sort of job.

Even McDonald's expects to have to train new hires to some degree, as they should.

Same in my country. Everybody complains about lack of quality and quantity of labor. And they are ready to do everything to alleviate the shortage except raise the pay and train the workers.
