Ask HN: Do you guys see any value in LinkedIn?

I've been thinking about this for a while and decided to get some feedback from peers here. As an engineer, the only use-case for LinkedIn for me is job search. I found most of my previous jobs this way and looks like it's the default platform for HR to reach out. In the other hand, as commonly known, content there is garbage so personally I almost never post or read anything. Seems like a clear case for deleting my account but job opportunities, occasional lost colleague contact and just years of having a profile there make me rethink it.

I like to follow some VCs in europe (like Michael Jackson, no relation) who are harsh on europe for being short sighted on business and politics. i guess many of them are on twitter too but I don't really like twitter since it's new ownership. overall i find linkedin to be a nice amount of social media becuase its kind of boring you give up scrolling pretty fast, and you can post stuff there and get some feedback or distribution of your work (e.g., academic papers, find new users for FOSS you write). also because it is always showing your old posts to people for like weeks after you post them, this works out that scrolling is boring. people seem to always see everything eventually.

I am on the same boat. I have posted a lot of tech content but barely got reach. Other people with the same random story, clickbaits, and negativity are getting a lot of likes and reach. The job section is not good as it is used to be. Easy apply never works, and there are fake jobs too. The LinkedIn premium is totally trash. Still, since the profile has a lot of good posts, I still think I should leave this platform as it will erase the document or post I am creating through my journey.

Any suggestions for alternative job platform (until OpenAI build theirs)?
