I think there are at least 2 core reasons:

1. Elon has tainted the brand with his polarizing behavior.

2. Tesla now has lots of competition, most with stronger technical features and at more affordable prices.

Elon is a brilliant PR person, but with his ADHD has too many irons in too many fires and increasingly alienates his own workforce.
