Ask HN: For what do we need a CEO in the age of AI?

Just wondering... How much value do CEOs add actually? They get a lot more money for sure. But what's the value? They give some vague direction that gets anyways refined more downstream. Could be replaced by AI no problem. Also, would justify the high cost of data centers. I'd say boards better invest in a awesome LLM and some kind of angelists.

My understanding: CEO is the one who is held accountable if anything happens. They also get the final say on any major decisions.

Personally, I wouldn't entrust control of a company in the hands of a tool that struggles to beat a 25 year old children's video game. Navigating reality is a lot more complicated than a children's video games.

In theory, yes.

In practice, many never take responsibility for screw-ups and instead cash out before there are any consequences.

When it comes corporate decisions, again yes. But most happen at much lower levels, where there is even less accountability.
