Show HN: SkipFees -free community directory of restaurants that deliver directly
- Restaurants pay 15–30% commissions per order, forcing them to raise prices or operate at a loss. - Drivers earn ~$11.77/hour before gas and vehicle costs (often below minimum wage). - Customers end up with inflated menus and hidden fees, sometimes paying 30%+ more than the food is actually worth.
The apps don’t create value. They pull money out of restaurants, workers, and customers. It benefits nobody.
I built something simple in response: skipfees.com
It’s a free, community-driven directory of restaurants that deliver themselves. No middleman, no inflated prices, no commissions.
Right now it’s small (just a couple dozen Toronto restaurants I added manually), but anyone can add their local spots in seconds. My hope is that, over time, this grows into a resource people everywhere can use.
I’m a university student; this isn’t a startup or a VC-backed company. It’s free and open to everyone. Still rough and might be buggy, but I’d love feedback on the concept, UX, and what features would make it more useful.
