Charity is one enticing opposite. Caritas embodies benevolence, antithetical to the ruthless shouts of traders on an exchange floor. But even charity is bound to redistribution. The path toward becoming a philanthropist often starts with setting unprecedented records of financial success, charging the most for an hour of time, winning the Market itself.
I keep running into this meme, that charity is somehow antithetical to capitalism, rather than another category of goods that capitalists buy, often as a luxury. With fewer successful capitalists there would be less spent on both charity and yachts, for the same status seeking reasons.
