It's interesting to think about the difference between "tattling" (or "reporting") and "calling out". These days I have the sense a problem our society faces in the US is an unwise embrace of "moral freedom". When everyone feels it's "not their place" to call things out, and that they shouldn't "be a snitch", we create a situation where people learn to do as much as they can get away with.
