We'll Soon Mod Our TV Shows Like We Mod Our Video Games

I guess what I don't get is we, to some extent, watch shows for commonality, maybe it differs for some, but half of the fun of a show like the Sopranos is /who/ Tony is, maybe for superhero movies the disposable nature of the characters makes them easier to paper over but the only modding I could imagine would be things like community modpacks that repackage an entire cut of a show to change context, but then are shared as a common pack e.g. "The Snyder cut". Of course though the studios would never release a raw directory of recuttable footage, even if they could generate revenue from the resulting free labor.
