That surprise connection makes me think of how there are several common vegetables which look rather different, but are all a species of Brassica Oleracea, warped into different cultivars. (Cabbage, Broccoli, Kale, Brussel Sprouts, etc.)

the big difference being, those cultivars are (IIUC) all human created, while this was a long-time-ago evolutionary event.
