> Just like regular eye glasses that help correct bad vision, smart glasses will be the main way people access and use AI
That analogy falls apart before it even gets to the analogy stage.

We'll see. Even if Zuckerberg's nonsense about "superintelligence" comes true, I'm willing to bet that in a world where everyone is wearing AI glasses, I'll have the advantage by not.
treetalker · 20h ago
Any superintelligence worthy of the moniker would make advantages and disadvantages irrelevant.

Please expand on this. I think about it a lot and my predictive power breaks entirely when it comes to ASI.

Product Salesman: "Anyone not using our product in the future will be at disadvantage."
Bluestein · 21h ago
My first thought was, one was at a disadvantage by looking as dorky as he does with those glasses on ...

Population control!
Bluestein · 20h ago
Sheer antinatalist propaganda right there, on a wearable AI, metaverse-enabled pair of goofy dorkiness!

In which case, poor people lose out more to affluent. Take the economic web and stretch it further.

rolph: Anyone wearing AI glasses in the future will be at disadvantage when the connection goes down.

Way ahead of you there Zuck, I'm going to get the Neurolink ...

There are worse things than being at a disadvantage.

Yeah, they won’t be able to see through women’s clothes…
PaulHoule · 22h ago
Or rather they'll make all women look like the OnlyFans models who supposedly want to follow me on Facebook and Instagram.
dotcoma · 22h ago
oh, they're not for real ?
PaulHoule · 22h ago
They all look the same. If Zuckerberg wasn't so careless and actually knew what to do with my usage data he'd know they aren't my type.
dotcoma · 22h ago
Same story as with "targeted advertising"

With Meta glasses they won't have their bottom half anyway.
sleepyguy · 22h ago
META Glasses have been a godsend for my elderly mother-in-law, who is visually impaired and slowly losing her sight. They can read labels for her, answer spoken questions (she can’t use a computer), play music, help her locate items in her immediate surroundings, and even handle phone calls. She’s gradually discovering new ways to use them.
It would be even better if they could integrate with smart home systems—such as turning on lights, adjusting the thermostat, or providing reminders for appointments, etc. There’s enormous potential for devices like this to serve the elderly and the visually impaired. My father-in-law was so impressed, he bought himself a pair even though he doesn't need any assistance.
anang · 20h ago
Is this maybe the play? Facebook has an aging user base, maybe it makes sense for them to target older people who have trouble using traditional computers or smartphones?
AnimalMuppet · 22h ago
Anyone not wearing AI glasses in the future will put Facebook at a disadvantage with respect to shoving ads at you.
rolph · 20h ago
seriously if something was done to manipulate the optical lenses to optimise for usage mode it would be helpful
EA-3167 · 22h ago
From the man who recently tried to convince you, himself, and his shareholders that if you didn't buy in the crypto-driven VR world he never really created, you would be at a disadvantage.
I can't wait to see the next hole he throws a few billion down.

I won't be able to see ads and AI slop without them. What a bummer.
