Were there any companies that went all in on the internet revolution too soon, and spent a bunch of money trying to pivot and failed?

2001's dot-com bust was littered with companies that went all in on the Internet and went bust, some of them pivoted, most of them failed.

What if you’re all in, using these tools every day, bought into the future, trying to automate your job and continually coming up short? What if all your peers are experiencing the same thing? What if you try to look for help online and only find vague stories of influencers talking about how great their experience is with no details in the specifics of how to replicate what they do. What if you abandon all of your skills for a new set of skills that never automate much beyond the 15-20% of tasks they currently automate, and you find yourself surpassed by your peers who show some moderation in their excitement?
