Although totally unspectacular, lake Thetis (its a small pond) has much smaller stromatelites, which you can see from a walkway. It is walking distance outside of Cervantes, which in turn is one of the closest places to stay near the Pinnacles, a sweet little national park with unusual sandstone formations.

These ones are a few inches high, pancakes in the shallows of the lake. But amongst the oldest living things and I thought worth a visit, going to the Pinnacles NP anyway.

Hamelin Pool is more interesting but Lake Thetis is a shorter drive from Perth, if pressed for time.
