Show HN: I built BodyCount to track my 'score' but found deeper meaning
After inputting my data, the visualization revealed patterns I'd never noticed. Seeing my romantic history mapped out geographically and temporally made me genuinely reflect on the who, when, where, and why behind each connection. What began as casual tracking became a tool for sexual self-awareness.
Technical features:
- Geographic visualization of encounters across countries/cities - Temporal analysis showing patterns over time - Statistical breakdowns and trend analysis - Privacy-first architecture
The unexpected outcome: it's making me more intentional about who I add to the "list." Having to consciously input each new connection creates a moment of reflection that didn't exist before.
The technical challenge was making intimate data feel empowering rather than clinical, focusing on personal growth insights rather than just numbers.
Currently have accounted for 77 connections/romantic moments with women from 22 nationalities. Looking for feedback on the concept – has anyone else found that quantifying personal experiences leads to better self-awareness?
I'm DS, a 31-year-old developer from NYC. Over the past few years of travel and dating, I kept losing track of meaningful connections and experiences that were actually important to my personal growth.
What started as curiosity about basic patterns (geographic distribution, timing, etc.) turned into something unexpectedly reflective. Having to consciously input each connection made me more thoughtful about who I'm spending intimate time with and why.
The technical challenge was interesting - how do you visualize deeply personal data in a way that feels empowering rather than clinical? I focused heavily on the UX to make it feel more like journaling than spreadsheet tracking.
I'm considering adding features around relationship pattern recognition - maybe helping people understand their actual preferences vs. perceived preferences through data analysis. The geographic and temporal patterns in my own data were genuinely surprising.
Would love feedback on:
- The overall concept - useful or weird? - Technical execution and privacy approach - What additional insights would be valuable? - UI/UX thoughts if you check it out
Thanks for any thoughts! This community has been incredibly helpful for my previous projects.
