Show HN: How Many Cigarettes You Smoked Being Exposed to Air Pollution

I coded this small calculator to create more awareness on your lifelong exposure to air pollution by comparing it to cigarettes smoked.

Future improvements might be to select several cities in case you moved around.

Let me know if you have suggestions!

By the way, done with Claude Code Sonnet 4 and I spent around an hour on it. I think small programs like this is where AI tools really shine as you don’t need to ensure that the code fits into a larger architecture.

Great way to drive home the point about air pollution, and cool that AI helped you bring an idea to this stage so quickly!

I was confused by the city drop down, I tried entering my city and zip code and other things and then realized it is a set list of twenty cities right now. If you plan to keep it a short list, something other than a dropdown list (like a map with areas one can click to explore) would maybe give a better experience for now and also provide a route for someone to explore.

If someone was obsessed with this stuff, I could see the map starting to get down to county levels, letting AI incorporate info about local industry and regulation (or lack thereof)

With coal plant shutdowns across the country, it would be interesting to see before/after air quality reports (just thinking out loud, I love data stuff like this - great work!)
