Ask HN: Feeling disillusioned by AI and the state of things

I'm excited by AI, and use it daily and build stuff with it. I use the ChatGPT/Claude apps, and Cursor and CC for coding.

However, I can't help but just not feel any satisfaction anymore.

Using AI for actual work (like, to make money) kind of blows unless its some RAG based workflow/chat/suggest crap type of stuff. The APIs barely work, the results are garbage most of the time, and the issue of using probabilistic tools to drive deterministic work is kind of moronic if I'm being honest. Worse, the current hype is to spend $1 to make $0.50 which is also dumb and I've not really seen any breakout companies - either they were using Indians off shore or were just committing monetary fraud lol.

I feel a bit trapped, and I'm not sure what I'm looking for anymore. I guess I just don't feel much joy and satisfaction anymore in my "craft" or "work" and it kind of makes me really sad.

I'm 34 and I just feel lost. What the hell should I do?
