If it destroys the entire US auto industry, is that bad? Probably, but destroying industries is seen as good all the time. Cheap electric transportation will enable more transport, meaning new forms of work will spring up. It's the same argument that says that AI will add jobs in new areas just as much as it takes away in others, or cars will do for buggy makers.
