AI won't replace programmers — it will change who we are as programmers. You mentioned "vibe coding" — a future where we just "express intent" and the machine does the rest. Sure, the interface might shift from keyboard to prompt, voice, or gesture... but thinking, architecture, logic, and structure remain irreplaceable.

I spent years trying to figure out what I could do if I weren’t a developer, and I’ve come up with nothing. I’m old, dangerously overweight, can’t focus, am borderline schizophrenic, can’t sleep well, all drugs I’ve tried make my symptoms worse, and I’ve tried all types of sleep solutions multiple times. I have no backup plan and a large burn rate with kids in college and no second income.

AI threatens to take my job and even if it hadn’t, I’d lose it.

What jobs are there for an introvert with an old, broken body and mind?

All the jobs that don’t require manual labor will likely go away, and I’m an introvert who doesn’t listen well and have never learned easily, so going back to school could be a costly waste.

We’ll all die of cringe when we need to figure out what happened ;-)

While an untrained human can go far with an AI on their side, a trained one who knows how to operate the AI tooling can do a whole lot more.

It was about time we stopped forcing humans to code CRUDs.
