It's remarkable how addicted we've become to things that, largely, are not good for us. The damage caused by social media both to individuals and global politics would be difficult to imagine 20 years ago. All we wanted to do was connect with friends and share photos of our adventures. We ended up with content shoved in our faces, deliberately manipulating us, and vast swathes of people in multiple generations losing their minds. Things weren't exactly great before, and life has gotten better in many ways for many people, but it's hard to argue that society as a whole has suffered damage we're unlikely to ever recover from. With the amount of fake AI content I now see otherwise intelligent people sharing, it's only going to get worse.
