the "26" must have been last minute and the did not clean it up. This will likely cause bugs.

All Office versions since Office 2016 have a major version of 16.

The 26 was for the year 2026, other software have been adapting this version numbering system to their software to the current or next year.
Reminds me of Windows 95, 98, and 2000.
