The Switch 1, despite famously launching with the “better launch title” of $60 Breath Of The Wild instead of $80 Mario Kart, took a month to get to 2.75 million. The PS5, for comparison, took four weeks to reach 3.4 million.
The Steam Deck meanwhile does not have hard numbers, but is widely believed to be under 6 million in lifetime sales.
It is clear at this point that literally nobody cared about any supposed controversies regarding Nintendo or the launch. Nintendo certainly isn’t going to care, as they now have the record for fastest selling console.

Nintendo does care, just not about the fringe reddit crowd. Nintendo cares enough to ensure all their games are extremely polished and everyone can have fun in almost any Nintendo game. If they cared about random redditors, they will have to make a linux running device which can run a full stack web app with cheap games and steam deck like specs (and the fringe crowd might even then not buy that device holding out for some more features). So I think they are doing all right.

None of that matters, clearly. What Nintendo understands is that people will buy the hardware if it has a Mario Kart or Zelda game available at launch.

That's literally what they did, though: https://switchroot.org/
