A YouTuber who exposes scams is trying to contact Google after his Google account was (presumably mistakenly) locked pending deletion. It sounds like a typo in the alternative email address he submitted for the appeal process might prevent him from proceeding with the appeal. Can anybody put him in contact with somebody at Google?

I feel for Sloan if his side of the story is complete; but if I was in an account deletion dispute with Google I'm not sure I'd set up a gmail account as my emergency contact/helpline.

I had no idea Google Drive regularly or programmatically looked through my data for anything objectionable.

I've never put it on the cloud, but I've had legal cases I worked on that would have definitely flagged automated review triggers. Its shocking to me that there's such a difference in what companies do with your data if you upload it to Google Drive vs. iCloud Drive these days.

Yes.

Anecdotally, the owner of the SV Seeker Youtube channel had their Youtube account terminated and lost all of their videos because they had uploaded some...adult content for a single viewer as a private video, which Youtube scanned and detected. "Private" just means "not discoverable."

TLDR Don't use Google storage in any capacity as a source of truth or sole copy, and encrypt if you don't want the data scanned, inspected, etc.

Thanks for the resources. I will be sharing this info.

Lawsuit data has been sent to me more than once via Google Drive share links -- makes me think I'm not the only one who is unaware of the scanning practices.

Google Drive is usually used vs something more clunky like Sharepoint or Intralinks because of the simple UX and the access controls and audit logs (sharing, views, downloads) it provides. I like Box personally for corp content management, ymmv.
