Psychodiagnostics when the patient isn't present is fraught, but my take is that Elon, like Kanye West [1] is bipolar but thinks he is autistic. The way he posts furiously for a while, disappears from the news for a few weeks, and then starts firing off unhinged salvos fits the profile.

Let's not forget that while some psychoactive drugs are fine when used in moderation or infrequently, frequent use can affect cognition and behavior, rarely for the better. I write that with sympathy for everything he's been associated with consuming.

There are reasons to fear dissociatives. I went through a phase of drinking Robitussin in my youth without obvious harm but people were taking much more powerful doses of powdered DXM circa 2000 -- a friend of mine took a massive dose and was in a dazed state for about a month and when he came back he was a sex addict, like if his girlfriend was spending the weekend in jail he would cheat on her.
