The problem isn't phones. It's apps

Of course it's not phones it's what we use to interact with them such as apps. We haven't always had a problem with apps either, until they became extremely invasive, addictive, ad filled etc. Most apps were once upon a time a positive thing, that primarily drove improved communication, now they're becoming rotten.

We are moving into something new, but lets not forget that primarily apps weren't always as hostile as they are today. The next paradigm shift will likely accompany all of the same hostile behaviors apps have become, perhaps not initially to drive engagement but eventually it will in the same way apps did.

Yes. If the profit motive is all one cares about, a race to the bottom is inevitable.

In the long run, not only are we all dead, but everything eventually turns to shit. Our sacred duty is to prolong that fate for as long as possible.

Exactly and moving away from apps won't solve the problem, it will just move it to another platform or medium

If all they’re offering is yet another Skinner Box, then no thank you.
