Ask HN: Why No Crypto / Web3 links?

Is there a rule against posting crypto / web3 links or is the HN community allergic to it?

I’ve been building in web3 / crypto for years now and think the depth of social and technical problems are super interesting.

Lots of other places to post but curious why no / very few crypto links here.

I don't really understand the need to make "crypto" or "web3" the headline of most (any?) product. The concept that "sells" what you're pushing should be its utility or usefulness, not its infrastructure. Tell HN what the thing you're building does and the community will decide based on those merits. If you're building something to interact with crypto, yea, HN probably doesn't care.

If you're building something cool that uses blockchain in the underlying framework but doesn't require owning/buying/trading crypto, chances of getting attention and traction here is 10x IMO.

Most crypto is just speculation wrapped in regulatory arbitrage and decentralization theater and Web3 stuff doesn't need a token at all.

Strong elements of disinterest and active opposition, yes. I am oppositional, I don't think I'm unusual amongst HN readers in that regard.

Im curious about what you're building and what techical challenges you're facing/solving? Does it involve a token, nft, or getting rich quick? If yes my curiosity will probably be very very low since it sounds like 99% of crypto projects.

I don't care for the gang-wars or religion-safeguarding when it comes to crypto/web3 - each of the opponents has their own arguments the others just won't see.

I associate crypto/web3 with blockchain, apes and people loosing money and with Bitcoin et al. Yet, still needs emerge a use case.

..it was hyped by a few, but was not accepted by the masses . May be that's the reason?

AI is the slop du-jour, you'll have to wait your turn until VCs are sufficiently bored of ChatGPT first.
