Is it even possible to get data either way nowadays? How would you ever do a convincing study either way?
It would really be amazing if the FDA led the way on real science: Create as large as possible a sample set of volunteers that are okay with either receiving or not receiving the shot. Randomize them all and run the test.

Paywall, it's NYT. Does the article hint at any data driving this decision, or the quality of data? Or any reason whatsoever beyond vibes and prejudice?

Yeah the problem is that this advice is so political it’s impossible to just get good science out there. The pharmaceutical industry don’t seem to want to invest in doing good clean studies to show the product works with new strains so you are just left to gamble.

Its the FDA that tells pharma which ones to make...

They say what is the minimum standard. If the industry wants to go beyond minimum nobody would stop them. Obviously there is only interest in doing the minimum because there is a chance of getting unfavorable results but it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the product

From the article:
> Flanked by Dr. Marty Makary and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, who lead the Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health, Mr. Kennedy said in the video announcement that there was no clinical data to support additional shots for healthy children.
> However, pediatricians point out that the youngest infants face among the highest risks for hospitalization, similar to older adults.
> The officials did not offer an explanation for removing the vaccine from the list of shots recommended for pregnant women, focusing instead on children. “It’s common sense and it’s good science,” Dr. Bhattacharya said of removing them.
If there is data there is no mention of it while the article alludes to lots of data existing for the opposite.

Its not science unless you write down the observed results. Until we have those, assume lies

No suprises there. What did you think RFK would do? Complete nut job.
