We built Contour, a browser-based GIS that lets you fetch, analyze, and visualize spatial data using natural language — no shapefiles, no scripting, no software installs.

Instead of dragging layers and writing code, you can just type:

“Load census tracts for California and join ACS data for income, education, and population.”

Or:

“Create a vulnerability index using low income, high density, and low education levels.”

It handles real GIS operations — buffers, joins, calculations, visualizations — all through prompts. You can export styled maps, CSVs, GeoJSON, or PDFs directly.

Contour connects to live public datasets (Census, ACS, Overture Maps, etc.), runs on the cloud, and supports collaborative map projects.

We made it because we were tired of spending hours wrestling with traditional GIS just to do simple spatial work. Most modern tools still expect users to be technicians. Contour is our attempt to change that — and make GIS accessible to anyone who thinks spatially.

We’re in private beta and onboarding early users. Would love your feedback on what works and what doesn’t. Happy to answer any questions here.
