Kind of an unserious article, but not surprising from the Wordle game people who operate a newspaper business on the side.
It buries the lede that China is has 35% EV market share growth this year. The idea that EVs are going away is an absolute howler, I'm more inclined to believe that we'll go back to horse-powered transportation. What I do believe is that the US is devolving into a resource cursed nation, and it will eat its young in auto manufacturing to protect its fossil fuel extraction industry.

Its because they HATE Musk and are having day dreams about Tesla going broke.
One possibility is that as solar, wind, etc, become more common and the focus moves to dealing with storage, hydrogen fuel cells become more commonplace. They have quite a few advantages for vehicles (e.g. weight).
I can definitely foresee a future where excess energy production is stored in hydrogen cells and used in vehicles.

FUD, FUD, FUD, FUD. As (I think it was) Robert Llewellyn said, there are forces trying to stop that moves EVs and to renewable energy but in the end all they'll wind up doing is slowing those moves down.

Pretty much. The math is pretty simple: the more you drive the more economical an ev is due to it being more efficient and lower maintenance. Fighting against EVs is fighting an uphill battle. But I suppose it’s the only logical thing to do for the oil companies, and so many people are afraid of change they can easily leverage that. The whole range anxiety thing for instance is such a joke.
