Show HN: Syntax – Free tool generating dorks for precise, professional search
We've all been there – trying to find specific information online can sometimes feel like wading through endless irrelevant results. Syntax aims to simplify this by making powerful search techniques more accessible.
How it works:
You enter what you want to search for (e.g., "AI," "vulnerability research," "specific PDF manual"). Syntax then generates over 100 targeted dorks based on your input. As seen in the screenshot (e.g., 105 total dorks for the "AI" query). These dorks are categorized to help you refine your search. You can click on any generated dork, which will take you directly to the search results. Syntax covers a range of categories, including:
General: Broad starting points.
Files & Documents: For locating specific file types like PDFs, documents, and spreadsheets.
Educational: Finding .edu resources, academic papers.
Forums & Discussions: Uncovering community conversations and insights.
Social Media: Targeting searches within specific platforms.
Security: Assisting in OSINT, finding public exposure, etc.
Websites: Using operators like site:, inurl:, intitle:.
Recent Content: Focusing on newer information.
The goal is to streamline the crafting of complex search queries, allowing you to quickly surface information that might otherwise be hard to find. It's completely free, online, and designed to be easy to use.
We built Syntax because I often need to dig deep for specific information and found that having a quick dork generator tailored to different contexts can be a real time-saver.
Would love for you to try it out and hear your feedback! What other categories or dork types would be helpful?
Thanks!
