Show HN: A Generative AI Encyclopedia

Since ChatGPT became popular, I've been wondering: what would an LLM-powered app that's not chat-centric look like ? Would an encyclopedia that's almost entirely generated on-the-fly be any good? Can we use AI hyper links to replace most of the typing? Since I haven't found anything close to what I had in mind, I decided to give it a try and see for myself.

WikiGen.ai is a website that's almost entirely generated by AI, with a few contextual tools to assist users with readability levels, explanations, and fact checking. (Demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG0CpSE0cFI) I actually liked the end result of this experiment, which feels like a nice break from all the typing in typical AI apps (including similar sites like Perplexity). So I thought of sharing it with you all and get your take on it.

If there's enough interest, the next step up would be to optimize the site for mobile devices, incorporate more media and, naturally, external grounding sources for better accuracy.

I think one of the issues models has today that makes people worry when consuming information there about history and conflicts that it has mistakes.

If you can solve this issue, it would be great. Show grounded texts: Left/Blue side says: Right/Red side says:

Because history is not math so each group has its own history

Indeed, it is difficult to reliably prevent factual mistakes. I added a tool to quickly fact check anything in the article, which does something similar to what you described. If it's easy enough to use, it can help mitigate some of the concerns around accuracy.

Edit: mobile should work better ! The site is more responsive, performance has been improved, and follow up actions will now show in a drawer.

Your website is neat. 1 question though. How is it different from searching directly on ChatGPT?

Thanks! Hopefully you didn't try on mobile as that's not working great yet. The main difference is in the way users interact with the app, where chatting takes a backseat in favor of a more exploratory format.
