Peter Thiel is one of the many reasons why I find it harder to be optimistic about the future than it used to be.

Science is stagnating? What's the data or anecdotal evidence?

What science or technology has Thiel brought forth because of his big thinking? He co-founded PayPal (2004) and Palantir (2005) and I suppose you could frame those two ideas/companies as expansive, but it is also 20 years ago and there are scientists and technologists who have invented things since then much much bigger in impact and scope, in my opinion.
