This is "analogous" to soldering different components into an analog audio circuit in ways intended to strategically modify the signal.
And then listening to it afterward to see if you like the sound better or not.
The cross-platform challenge is like developing the ability to utilize any audio components from any supplier, whatever is available. Lots actually not even intended for audio signals.
