Cannot read the pay-walled article. But based on the words in the url I found several links discussing this article, end of 2024: https://about.fb.com/news/2024/11/cracking-down-organized-cr...

I assume the OP link discusses the same subject again.

Just turn off Javascript. When a page won't give you and article without Javascript just don't read it. A scammy popup asking someone to pay money before you can read an article is not some place a hacker would send somebody.

> We spoke to Gavesh and five other workers from inside the scam industry, as well as anti-trafficking experts and technology specialists. Their testimony reveals how global companies, including American social media and dating apps and international cryptocurrency and messaging platforms, have given the fraud business the means to become industrialized. By the same token, it is Big Tech that may hold the key to breaking up the scam syndicates—if only these companies can be persuaded or compelled to act.

Yes, it's obviously so incredibly easy to stop organized crime, and Big Tech is just sitting on its hands. What an insightful paragraph.

Starlink and iPhones, I suppose that makes sense, tools less likely to be cut off or leak incriminating details
