There may be an opportunity to change course. On the other hand, the system is fraying. The FEC ( https://www.fec.gov/ ) is put out of action.
Elections may continue, but the results may be prescribed. It doesn't has to be as cartoonish as in North Korea or China, where only one party is allowed. The Russian model is more likely - competing parties are allowed, but only if they are losing competing parties.
